Matilda: The Musical

By turns rude, crude, heart-breaking and hilarious, Matilda: The Musical achieves something quite out of the ordinary: an adaptation of a Roald Dahl masterpiece that matches the glories of its source material.

Written by Dennis Kelly and with songs by Tim Minchin, it combines glorious verbal wit with an understanding that few things are funnier than a big man in a dress or a well-honed fart gag.

The winner of seven Olivier awards in 2012—the most ever won by a single show—Matilda tells the story of a precocious young girl whose love of reading is hideously undermined by repulsive parents and a bullying headmistress, and whose frustrations with the adult world find form in some powerful supernatural powers.
