Paul Smith

In 1979, Paul Smith opened his first London shop, 44 Floral Street, Covent Garden.

Inspired by the success of his Nottingham shop and leading on from his menswear show in Paris, Paul needed a London space to house his collections. He found it in a tiny, dilapidated bakery in the then run-down Covent Garden.  44 Floral Street was slowly transformed from an un-remarkable shell of a shop into an elegant and stark menswear shop.

With the launch of his women’s collection, Paul added the Paul Smith women’s wear shop and later created a ‘boudoir’ room in the basement with lush velvet charcoal fabrics and hand-picked antique furniture.

Today, 40-44 Floral Street houses a comprehensive selection of the Paul Smith collections for men, women and children. With an extensive selection of jewellery, books, art, antiques and an array of interesting and beautiful curios, the shops reflects the character of Paul and his designs – unmistakable Englishness with the unexpected.
