Courtauld Institute of Art

Opening Hours

MON - SUN: 10AM - 6PM

The art collection of the Covent Garden-based Courtauld Institute of Art was started in 1932 by the industrialist and collector Samuel Courtauld, who gathered together an extraordinary array of French Impressionist and Post-Impressionist works.

Since 1989, the Institute’s paintings, drawings and sculptures have been on display in a beautiful dedicated gallery space within Somerset House.

Although covering a broad span of dates and styles, including masterpieces of Flemish baroque and the Italian renaissance, those Gallic greats—Cézanne, Degas, Monet, Manet, Seurat, Renoir—remain one of its major draws.
