Aldwych Theatre

Built as a pair with its Covent Garden neighbour the Novello, this beautiful, ornate theatre has been one of London’s most famous venues since 1905.

Many a superstar has had the pleasure of treading its boards—Vivien Leigh appeared in a 1949 production of A Streetcar Named Desire, directed by her husband Laurence Olivier—and for over 20 years, the Aldwych provided a Covent Garden home for the Royal Shakespeare Company.

The theatre has hosted the West End debuts of plays by Harold Pinter, Tom Stoppard and Andrew Lloyd Webber.
