Galeria Melissa presents Vivienne Westwood Anglomania installation
Melissa celebrates the launch of the Vivienne Westwood Anglomania Rocking Horse Ballerina shoe, with a special installation at Galeria Melissa, Covent Garden. For Autumn-Winter 2016/17 Melissa has re-created the iconic Vivienne Westwood platform shoe design, in its signature recyclable plastic.
The Spring-Summer 1985 show entitled Mini-Crini, debuted Westwood’s take on the traditional 19th century undergarment. Mini crinolines worn as outerwear in cottons and lightweight tweed, designed humorously in child-like prints. As part of the Mini-Crini collection Vivienne wanted to achieve poise and elevation as well as movement and so created the Rocking Horse Ballerina shoes to finish the look.
The Rocking Horse Ballerina’s were also an integral part of Westwood’s ground-breaking Autumn-Winter 1987/88 show, entitled Harris Tweed. Accessorised with pearly queen hats and tweed crowns, the Harris Tweed collection paid homage to the tailoring traditions of Saville row and parodied the English upper-classes.
The installation at Galeria Melissa showcases archive footage of the Vivienne Westwood Harris Tweed collection, creating the backdrop for a special rocking horse shoe chandelier. On the lower-ground floor, prints from Westwood’s Mini-Crini and Harris Tweed collections will pad the room, which surrounds a super-sized rocking horse platform complete with a saddle, inviting customers to ride the iconic Westwood shoe.
The Melissa X Vivienne Westwood Anglomania Rocking Horse Ballerina is reminiscent of the original design, with a platform base and ribbon ankle ties. Created entirely from vegan and recyclable plastic. Available at Galeria Melissa and Vivienne Westwood boutiques and online; in red, black and white, as well as a special edition gold colour-way.
