Discover Covent Garden in Bloom this summer
Covent Garden, the oldest square in London and Westminster Abbey’s original orchard garden, is returning to its historic past as it becomes a floral haven this summer.
The silver-medal winning Chelsea Flower Show garden '500 Years of Covent Garden' has been transported back to Covent Garden’s iconic Piazza, transforming into ‘The Terrace at Covent Garden’ for the summer months from 1st June. The Terrace launches with a garden bar from Nyetimber English sparkling wine, offering shoppers a tranquil floral haven in a prime al fresco spot on the Piazza.
To celebrate ‘Covent Garden in Bloom’ shops and restaurants across Covent Garden have blossomed with botanical window and store displays and exclusive in store experiences unique to Covent Garden.
The Ivy Market Grill, Frenchie and Dirty Martini have created exclusive floral cocktails available until July, including The Ivy's 'Covent Garden Summer Blush', Frenchie's 'Rosemary Mei' and Dirty Martini's 'The Chelsea Tea Party' all featuring botanical ingredients. Shoppers are also spoilt for choice with floral themed products around the neighbourhood, from Kiehl’s and kikki.K to NARS and Godiva.
Garden designer Lee Bestall has planted 'The Terrace at Covent Garden’, taking key elements from the show garden he designed at Chelsea ‘500 Years of Covent Garden’, including the 60-year-old apple trees, planters filled with floral displays and bespoke furniture. The concept for the show garden was influenced by Covent Garden through the ages; as the orchard garden for Westminster Abbey, its centuries as London's fruit and flower market, and the vibrant destination it is today.
Dirty Martini is celebrating their favourite season by debuting their limited edition cocktail: The Chelsea Tea Party.
The cocktail pairs Silent Pool Gin with fresh lime juice, dried lavender, Briottet Liqueur de Coquelicot de Nemours (Poppy) with the addition of homemade Honey and Chamomile Tea Syrup. The cocktail embodies the fruits of spring with Fee Brothers Peach Bitters, Briottet Crème de Fraise de Bois and fresh muddled strawberry and cucumber.
The Chelsea Tea Party is topped off with champagne foam and is then garnished with a delicate sprig of Baby’s Breath with a light dusting of raspberry powder, adding pops of berry flavour, making it almost too pretty to drink. The limited-edition cocktail will be exclusively available at the Covent Garden bar from 15th May –25th June.
