Ray-Ban is truly a worldwide phenomenon. Ray-Ban came to be in 1929 when US Army Air Corps Colonel John A. Macready worked with medical equipment manufacturer, Bausch & Lomb, to create aviation sunglasses for US Army pilots. Aviator frames garnered unprecedented popularity in the 1950s and again in the 1970s, having been worn by the likes of Elvis Presley.

Bausch & Lomb also designed the Wayfarer frame in 1952. Labelled “a mid-century classic to rival Eames chairs and Cadillac tail-fins” the frame became Ray-Ban’s second signature staple, adorning celebrities such as Debbie Harry, Jack Nicholson, Madonna and Anna Wintour.

The frames’ endurance through meandering eras of 21-century style is a true testament to their versatility, helping Ray-Ban to become synonymous with timeless and effortless cool.

At Covent Garden’s Ray-Ban store at Long Acre, you’ll find all of the brand’s classic designs, including the Clubmaster and Wayfarer, as well as more recent additions such as the Round Double Bridge, Justin, and Erika frames.
