Covent Garden Christmas Switch On 2019
What a night! Covent Garden officially began the festive season on Tuesday 12th November with the annual switch on extravaganza. After filming newly released film Last Christmas in Covent Garden last year, Actress Emilia Clarke, Dame Emma Thompson and Director Paul Feig, returned to the Covent Garden to officially switch on the Christmas lights, along with incredible West End cast of The Snowman. Magic Radio’s Ronan Keating and Harriett Scott hosted the evening and entertained crowds. This year’s festivities were in support of Crisis, the UK national charity for homeless people.
The evening’s entertainment kicked off with an exciting performance by the company of The Snowman taking to the stage to treat the audience to a rendition of The Ice Princess and The Snowman pas de deux duet. The Children’s choir from film Last Christmas brought extra magic to the snowy Piazza and traditional festive cheer to the stage with rousing renditions of Wham! and George Michael classics.
After the performances, Emilia Clarke, Dame Emma Thompson and Paul Feig joined the stage, where together they pressed the button to illuminate Covent Garden’s iconic Christmas tree, before leading the crowd into a sing-a-long of George Michael’s ‘Last Christmas’.
